This week I've made some serious progress on my white magnolia painting. It is almost, almost, but not quite done. I have some issues with the core that I want to work out, but I want to hide it from myself for a little while and look at it with fresh eyes next week. Since I don't feel like looking too closely at that painting right now, I photographed it yesterday from a small distance.
In this photo, you also get to see the basic layout of my studio. And yes, you're seeing that correctly, that is a pumpkin in the other painting I'm working on... Alas you see, I started that painting last October and did not finish on time for Halloween! Actually it's still not finished now, but I have been working on her. Since I took that photo yesterday, I've changed the color of her dress and am in the process of changing the pedestal, and once I've done that, she should be done. However, from this point on, I will keep her under wraps until we get closer to October...
At this point, I'm feeling a little lost for direction. I'm almost done with the white magnolia, but I can't decide what flower to paint next. I just know I definitely feel like painting another flower! Right now I am debating on a tulip, a calla lily, or a bird of paradise. If you feel like it, please vote for one, or even suggest another! If anyone votes, I'll compile the votes between my blog and facebook and announce the flower I'm to start on on Monday. I may or may not use one of the images that I've compiled for my reference image, but I think those have potential. Please help me to decide what comes next...

ReplyDeleteLove the flower!!! I'm voting for the Bird of Paradise.
ReplyDeleteThank you Leovi!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol, so far Bird of Paradise has a clear lead :).
I like your magnolia -- size, colour and all. In fact, I like all your flora paintings (seen from your gallery). I'm voting for the lily, although Bird of Paradise flower will be very interesting too. Looking forward to seeing what you decide to paint next!
ReplyDeleteYour magnolia looks stunning! I vote for the Bird of Paradise because of the mix of color in the flower (and stem).
ReplyDeleteI vote for poppy! :=)
ReplyDeletePoppis are my favorite too!! so my vote goes for it!
ReplyDeleteI vote for the tulip!

Hi Lynn, thank you! As far as I know there are two different kinds of magnolia trees, the white ones and the pink saucer magnolia trees. I love them both!
ReplyDeleteI've painted pink magnolias before (there's one in my auctions ending this week, but it's also in my floral gallery at http://www.lisarusso.com).
Thank you also Jutta, you are most kind! So far here we have a three way tie :)...
Hey Lisa ;o) Isn't it funny sometimes, when you start some paintings and you just can't seem to finish them? It's better to put them away and start something new. Better not to force anything ;o) I can't wait to see your pumpkin one done! Looks adorable ;o) My vote is for the Bird Of Paradise! Would love to see that flower painted ;o)
ReplyDeleteThank you Magic Love Crow for posting the deciding vote, Bird of Paradise it is! I will endeavor to do the others as well, but I will start with that one, thank you. I very much agree that sometimes a painting just wants a bit more time :).
ReplyDeleteThe calla lily is beautiful! But I'm sure anything you paint will be wonderful! Patsy from
