Colored Pencil Sketch of a Butterfly, November 17, Art Sketches Daily

Here is a sketch of a butterfly in flight.  There are so many beautiful butterflies!  It is in my tiny sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.   I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in November.  This is day 17.

This is a sketch in colored pencils.  You may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.  I'm not really a colored pencil artist but I am exploring something new for the sketchbook.  I will be juxtaposing my usual rough sketches with the colored pencil sketches at varying intervals.  I tend to sketch very lightly, so these and my usual pencil ones are darkened a bit in photoshop for online viewing.

  1. I like the idea of doing coloured pencil sketches, and the butterfly is beautiful. Do you use a special sort of pencils? Hugs, Valerie

  2. nice work in coloured pencils, tiny and pretty like the butterfly! I do go over my coloured pencil work with a wet brush dipped in water and it brightens the colour, makes me feel as if I painted something!

  3. Thanks very much Valerie-Jael and Christine! I'm using col-erase prismacolor colored pencils, I prefer to have the option of an eraser... I'm pretty sure in my case the paper is too thin for adding water with this sketchbook, but I love your colored pencil work Christine!

Thanks for visiting! I'm unable to comment on google+ sites that don't have the blog links, but I do visit. For some reason, even though I've said no to word verification, it still shows here. If you're logged in to Google or OpenID, you should still be able to post by clicking enter without filling in the word verification. I'm sorry about the glitch...
