My Photograph of Some Stargazer Lilies + Sketch of a Lily Flower, Big Eye Mermaid, & Clematis Flowers/ January 29, 30, & 31 Art Sketches Daily...

These stargazer lilies were a gift that filled my home with joy, they sat beneath the window in the kitchen.  Lily flowers are a wonderful subject and I may someday sketch and/or paint from the photographs I took of these lovely flowers.  The rose nestled near the back was from our garden.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

I love to paint flowers, you may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a lily.  These flowers have such an allure...  I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in January.  This is from day 29.

This is a rough sketch.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She is leaning over with her hair cascading down...  I think she is most likely a mermaid, although she could also be a fairy angel or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in January. This is from day 30.

Here is a sketch of two clematis flowers.  I love the core of this flower...  I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

"Vivid" Original 18"x24" Painting on Canvas Here

This week my featured painting is "Vivid."  There is a full bloom lily and a lily bud, together I thought the flowers were very sweet...  The floral art has a realist impressionist feel.  The original stargazer lilies painting is available for purchase on my website as are art prints and LE ACEO prints!

Most of my art is also available on my website at lisarusso.com; however, on the first Tuesday of the month, I like to put some art prints and LE ACEO prints on ebay at a lower promotional rate for the duration of the auctions...  This month, my theme is angels, you may see them here.

Creatures of the Earth, Sea, and Sky: Painting the Panamanian Cosmos Part II
LACMA Exhibit Open until April 15, 2018

With a theme of real and mythical animals, the show includes a mix of ancient ceramics and 20th century textiles.  Some of the ceramics were part of chief's burials and restored from purposely broken pieces, they are glazed in styles unique to Panamanian art with some purple hues.  The textile panels are called molas and come from the modern Kuna culture.  They were traditionaly made in pairs as part of a front and back panel of a woman's blouse and thought to have protective qualities.

I found these works very appealing.  Part I is here.

Armadillo Effigy Jar
Panama, Conte style, 600-900 CE

Mola with Animal (Possibly Fox)
Panama, San Blas, Kuna People, late 20th century

Pedestal Plate with Sea Monster Designs
Panama, Southern Azuero Peninsula, Joaquin style, 6500-1200 CE

Jar with Front-Facing Mythical Creature
Panama, Barrancosa, Macaracas style, 800-1000 CE

Pedestal Plate with Sea Monster Design
Panama, Conte style, 1000-1100 CE

Plate with Dual Image of Ferocious Fish
Panama, Macaracas style, 800-1000 CE

Mola with Interlocking Fish
Panama, San Blas, Kuna People, late 20th century

Pedestal Dish or Censer Stand with Stingray
Panama, Parita style, 1000-1300 CE

Double-Spouted Stingray Effigy Vessel
Panama, Conte style, 600-800 CE

Whilst I have continued to sketch daily, I spent my time getting this ready and haven't had a chance to prep my sketches yet.  I'll try to get caught up on posting my daily sketches tomorrow.

WIP Big Eye Self Portrait Art Original Painting Work in Progress + Sketch of a Mermaid, Sweet Pea Blossom, & Fairy/ JAN 26, 27, & 28 Art Sketches Daily...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP painting of an idealized big eye version of myself, I've started working on the roses.  I have quite a few left to go and then I may revisit some of them; I think the roses will be a combination of wet into wet and layering.  I think this is the mermaid version of me...  I'm saving the highlights in the eyes until last.

This idealized big eyed self portrait is on a 16"x20" canvas in acrylics.

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Black Kitty Cat Art Completed Original Painting + Art Sketch of a Big Eye Angel Fairy, January 25 Daily Sketches...

I have completed this original painting of a black kitty cat, she has big green eyes and is very sweet.  She was inspired by a kitten that was found abandoned and rescued by a wonderful family.  This acrylic 8"x10" painting is going directly to a private collection; however, prints and LE ACEO prints are available here though.

I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

'Interlude' Exhibit by Audrey Kawasaki at the Thinkspace Gallery (Closed Show) Part II

Audrey Kawasaki is one of my favorite artists, her faces and hands are exquisite.  She works predominately in oils on wood.  These pieces are from her solo show 'Interlude' at the Thinkspace Gallery.  There's some very tasteful artistic nudity in some of her pieces, for my post I've chosen to crop those paintings to feature her faces.  The show is closed.  This is Part II, Part I is here.
