It occured to me that I haven't done a study in while, so I pulled out an image of Durer's Madonna. In his image, there is also a child, but I decided to leave the baby out of my study. I do like babies, but I don't usually like painting them!
Unfortunately with the death of my printer, this week has been more about researching printers and taking the plunge to get a new one than painting. This is sketched in with just the barest hints of paint at this point. The background may read as black, but in actuality it is a very dark brown. Also, there's the section I accidently painted brown where I'd like it to be blue that I've repainted white so that when I take the cobalt blue out, it shouldn't be overpowered by the brown!
I have a lot of ideas right now about what I want to be painting, my focus is very split! I'm trying to decide if I should push forward with so many projects at once. Sometimes that works for me, but at other times my desire to paint everything all at once results in very little getting done on any of them... It's hard to know if I should let my focus be split or try to force my focus into a more narrow beam...
In any case, even though there's very little painting as of yet on this little painting, it measures 5"x7", I'm still sharing it as the very beginning of a work in progress view.

Loving your beautiful drawing, am sure she will be fabulous when finished. Happy PPF, Annette x
ReplyDeleteLove it so far...babies are hard to paint. I'm doing a china painting of the Holy Family now and Baby Jesus is a real challenge. Can't wait to see how your painting turns out.
ReplyDeleteLove that sketch! :) Right now, I'm arguing with my muse cause she wants to go on vacation and I'd like her to stay for a little longer. :))
ReplyDeleteWell done ~ will be beautiful I am sure ~~ thanks, ^_^ (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDeleteLisa, I think she is stunning. I know for myself, I like to do at least 2 to 3 paintings at a time, especially if I am waiting for them to dry. More than that, I think would be too much! Have a great weekend ;o)
ReplyDeleteAn interesting composition. I like that sweet face.
ReplyDeleteNot sure where you are located, but I just purchased an Epson All in One Printer/scanner that can scan up to 11 x 17 pages--first big scanner bed I've ever found! It will print on the large paper, too, and of course the Epson inks are waterproof, so you can paint right over them, should you want to...
ReplyDeleteI'm not in the studio right now, so I don't know the model number, but let me know on my blog if you want it...
Brilliant start! Can't wait to see your progress. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteShe's beautiful already. Hope you get more time to finish her! Patsy
ReplyDeleteI love going back to basics and doing a study... it is just such a great way to get your skills working... this is going to be amazing if your start is anything to go by...xx
ReplyDeleteWonderful beginning on Durer's Madonna! We learn so very much from masters like Durer!

She is looking great! Can't wait to see where this takes you!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be great if we could take a picture of our thoughts, to keep the idea of a painting for the future?? When I start several at the same time, Half the time I leave some undone for a long time :oP
Thanks so very much! I do work on more than one at a time, but usually one is the main painting. Definitely have a problem calling some of them finished some of the time! I feel if it isn't sold, I reserve the right to fiddle with it...
ReplyDeletei love your sketch and can't wait to see it finished! I'm a follower now and i hope you'll follow me too!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was starting out I copied a lot of Durer's work. He's wonderful, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteI am pleased to see a young artist doing the same. Good luck to you
happy PPF

You are all so sweet, thank you! I'm not so young, but I do very much appreciate Durer. I used to do studies every so often, but I've been out of the habit lately...
ReplyDeletei love seeing work in process! the drawing is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat drawing and will be impressive when painted :0)
ReplyDeleteThank you so very, very much! I hope to do some shadow of justice to it...
ReplyDeletewhat a great thing, to study the masters! I love this start already!
ReplyDeleteI'm facing similar dilemmas with my projects... beautiful study!
ReplyDeleteGreat start! Did you find a new printer and if so, what kind? I am considering buying a better one to make my own prints instead of paying a printing company ...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Alicia! I love to do master studies, but I haven't in a while.
ReplyDeleteI am waiting anxiously to see your lovely projects Masa :). Thank you.
Thanks Kristin, I bought a Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II Inkjet Photo Printer, which I think will be a good printer. I had to order a usb cable though (due to the large size of the printer and where I had to put it, I had to get a longer usb cable then the one I used for my old printer, in stores 20-30, on amazon 5, shrugs...), so I haven't been able to test it yet. The printer is huge and takes up a lot of space, it measures 14"x26" and if you want to print large format prints, it needs 15" behind it. When I ordered it, they had a 200 mail in refund on it, I don't think they're doing that right now, but hopefully they will again.
Also, if you scan up to Karen Smithey's post, I think her printer is very good and it's also a large format scanner, I'd already ordered mine before I saw her post, but it looks like a printer that's worth looking into as well!
