Rough Sketch of Stonechat Bird for #Birbfest2025!

This is a rough sketch of a stonechat for day 6 of #birbfest2025.  It was created with a mechanical pencil and an eraser in my sketchbook.  I know I won't complete a drawing every day for the challenge, but I intend to do a quick sketch as often as I get a chance.  This bird has a wonderful roundness to it and looks like it's on a mission.  After the month is through, maybe I'll pick some to create paintings with...

Rough Sketch of Crimson Topaz Hummingbird for #Birbfest2025!

This is a rough sketch of a crimson topaz hummingbird for day 5 of #birbfest2025.  It was created with a mechanical pencil and an eraser in my sketchbook.  I know I won't complete a drawing every day for the challenge, but I intend to do a quick sketch as often as I get a chance.  This bird in particular has magnificent plummage and would make a great painting.  After the month is through, maybe I'll pick some to create paintings with...

This is the prompt list if you'd like to draw or paint along:

WIP Work in Progress! New Years Year of the Snake Painting, Rough Sketch Stage...

It's a new year and this is a new project!  Here are a couple of rough sketches of my top two snake contenders for this year's Chinese New Year painting.  I've decided to go with the top snake, with a few adjustments.  The original painting will be duo oils on wood that measures 7"x5", I will possibly play with adding some iridescence to the snake...

Happy New Years wishes!  I hope your new year will be an even better year than you hope it will be!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays...

This little cardinal and I wish you Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!  My mom claimed this painting some years ago, so the original is no longer available, but the little bird still wishes to spread joy this holiday season.  With much love, we hope that your day will be merry and bright.

Happy Winter Solstice! New Bluesky Account & Learning New Things...

I've created a new bluesky account, my username is @lisabellarusso.bsky.social and my profile is at https://bsky.app/profile/lisabellarusso.bsky.social.  If you'd like to follow me, I'd very much like to follow you back!  One of the things I really like about bluesky is that the feed tends to cater to what you like.

This is my new banner, with the help of Alex Ledante, I created it in gimp.  I used to have photoshop, but when my computer died, well, lets just say I've been forced to learn some new tricks...  I've resisted, but while it isn't what I'm used to, I think I'll be able to use it.

Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful winter solstice!

WIP Work in Progress! Portion of Original Big Eye Rococo Maiden with Lovebirds Fantasy Painting...

This is a WIP work in progress image of two of my birds from my big eye rococo maiden with lovebirds in her hair.  They have been roughly blocked in.  Next I will refine them a bit; however Alex likes the unrefined feel of the birds and cautions me to keep them loose, so they won't be getting extremely tight.

Some may remember the little bird at the top as one I have painted before in small format.  It's now a much brighter colored bird!  Initially all of the birds were going to be blue, but my painting became brighter in hue and I was loosely inspired by my friend's green bird and those two things changed everything...

The original painting is duo oils on a wood panel cut to fit a vintage frame that measures approximately 12"x20" and will be approximately 14"x22" when framed.

WIP Work in Progress! Portion of Original Big Eye Rococo Maiden with Lovebirds Fantasy Painting...

Happy snuggles!  This is a WIP work in progress image of part of my big eye rococo maiden with lovebirds in her hair.  The original painting is duo oils on a wood panel cut to fit a vintage frame that measures approximately 12"x20" and will be approximately 14"x22" when framed.  I've loosely blocked in the bird couple; I have not yet decided if I will refine this couple a bit first or move on to blocking in another bird next and come back for refinements after I've blocked in all of the birds...

On Projects and Thankfulness and Hope...

Thanksgiving is a tricky holiday for me, I like the concept of it, the origins less so...  As I do very much believe in being thankful, I knew I wanted to say something today, but I just wasn't sure what.  I think right now, I'm focusing on being thankful for the small stuff.  In light of that here are some very tiny frames.  I'm planning on doing a smol Studio Ghibli inspired series, I intend to use these frames, but if they end up being smaller than I can paint, I'll hunt around for some more.  But thankfulness, back to thankfulness.  I am thankful to have art in my life.  I am also thankful for the people in my life that make art possible for me.

I hope that this Thanksgiving there is something or someone, no matter how smol, that gives you cause for thanks.  I hope for something that sustains.  May this day and the ones that follow be filled with love and beauty.

WIP Work in Progress! Original Big Eye Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead Fantasy Painting Underpainting...

Here is where I am on my 16"x20" duo oils Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead painting.  I've loosely underpainted the entire painting and need to begin finessing additional layers.  So very many feathers and so much more to come...
