Back of Plank Wired for Hanging for My Next Big Eye Fairy Art Painting + Show Info...

It took me a while to figure out how I could wire a wooden plank.  Some people carve into them using a special attachment for their drill, but I didn't feel confident that I could do that successfully.  The solution I found was to put four small screws in and attach the wire in the direction I planned to hang the piece.  The reason there are four is that I like my art to hang flush against the wall.  I do the wiring prior to painting because I worry that I might crack the wood after I've already done the painting, so I try to err on the side of caution...

This is for a big eye fairy angel that I am working on the color options for right now.  I finished my tiny little painting, she will be at the Whittier Art Gallery in the Miniatures and Small Works Show which runs from December 2nd to January 2nd.  I'll be at the reception on Saturday and I'll post more information as well as the work in progress view of her almost complete on Friday.  The gallery info is here.

Tawny Owlets Owls Sketch Art ...

Here is a sketch of two tawny owlets nestled up together.  This rough sketch is inspired by Paul Sawford's photograph, thank you Paul!  I doubt I'll paint them, but these owls were so cute and fluffy, I felt like I had to sketch them!

Angel Fairy Big Eye Art Original Painting Work in Progress WIP Continues...

Here is a bit more work on a tiny painting I am working on.  In this work in progress view of this big eye angel fairy maiden, I've worked on her face a bit.  In the WIP, I have yet to paint her eyebrow, eyelashes, and lips; but, those are coming next.  Then I'll paint her hair and I should be finished, unless I catch sight of something that needs more attention on her...  I'm trying to work a little faster on her because I have a deadline for her.

Angel Fairy Big Eye Art Original Painting Work in Progress WIP...

Here is a bit of work on a tiny painting I am working on.  In this work in progress view, I've worked on the fairy angel's neck and shoulders a bit.  Her hair will be covering most of it, but I wanted to block it in in the WIP so that when I paint her hair, skin tone can shine through in certain areas...  I hope that if you celebrate Thanksgiving, it was wonderful.

My Photograph of Yellow Peach Jimson Weed Datura Flowers at Descanso Gardens...

I took this photograph of these yellow peach Jimson Weed flowers at Descanso Gardens during my most recent visit.  The gardens are full of beautiful flowers this fall.  This flower goes by Datura and Angel's Trumpet and many more names!  My grandparents used to have this flower in their garden, but their flowers were white.  I hadn't seen Jimsomweed before in this color.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

Art Sketch of a Big Eye Angel Fairy, Partially Eyes Closed...

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  Her eyes are just partially open as she contemplates something profound; or, perhaps just considers a bit of a break...  I think she is most likely an angel fairy, although she could also be a mermaid or goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

Art Sketch of a Big Eye Elf Angel Fairy...

WIP Sakura Cherry Blossoms Flowers Art Original Painting Work in Progress...

Here is where I am with the 8"x10" cherry blossom painting that I am working on.  I've put another layer on the background, I may do a little more to the background before I do the stems and then begin the petals of the cherry blossoms.  They are such a beautiful and delicate flower, this is the third in my Sakura series...

Angel Fairy Big Eye Art Original Painting Work in Progress WIP for a Tiny Frame...

Here is where I am with the tiny little painting I am working on.  The paper is around 3 1/2" x 4" and what will show is around 3" x 3 3/8" in the image area of the frame.  This is smaller than I usually work.  Even though her wings do not show, I think this big eyed maiden could be an angel or a fairy, although it's also possible she could be a goddess.  I usually know by now, but I'm just going to go with it and see what feels right for her as the piece proceeds...

My Photograph of Two Bunny Rabbits on a Garden Path at Descanso Gardens...

I took this photograph of these two bunny rabbits at Descanso Gardens a while back.  They were far enough away on the garden path from me that they let me take a few photographs of them before they scampered off.  They're really tiny in this photo, but I thought they looked very cute together, alert yet safely far away.  I love bunnies!  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

Art Sketch of a Big Eye Gothic Angel Fairy for a Wooden Plank...

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  I've made some slight changes since you've seen her last.  I think this is pretty much the sketch I am going with for this fairy angel, although I intend to finesse the hair a bit.  I've drawn a couple of the flowers that I will have in her hair to the right, they will be very tiny though.  It's easier for me to sketch at a size that's comfortable to me and then resize the sketch in photoshop to the size I want the art to be.

I believe the flowers are based on strawberry flowers that I photographed in the Descanso Gardens gift shop when they were in season...  I'm planning to transfer her to a plank of wood and paint her there, but with the wooden planks I wire them first because I worry that I'll get the painting completely finished and then split the wood.  It's very thick wood, but I feel better if I do that first...

I am inspired by those tiny little flowers...  I am linking this post with Inspire Me Monday

Gold Leaf Practice for What I am Unsure of Yet...

When the lovely and talented Rose Adare came to visit, she taught me some tips about using gold leaf.  This is a practice canvas where I can test ideas.  I want to come up with a painting idea to use it for soon, so that I can practice the technique some more while the lesson is still fresh in my head, but I haven't come up with a concept I think it would work with yet.  I'm thinking though...

Rose uses gold leafing to beautiful effect in many of her art pieces, to see her art please visit her webpage here and her facebook page here.

Art Sketch of a Big Eye Gothic Mermaid...

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  She has a definite mermaid feel to me.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.  If I do paint her, I'd like her to be with her face and shoulders out of the water and the top of her tail curving up to the right or left.

My Photograph of a Peach Bearded Iris at Descanso Gardens + Inspired Big Eye Fairy Original Painting...

This floral photo was part of my inspiration for Iris Dream, an original big eye gothic fairy painting that's available as an original, prints, and LE ACEO prints here.

Art Sketch of a Big Eye Angel Fairy for a Tiny Frame...

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  I intend to use her for a tiny little painting for a specific frame.  This is a rough sketch, I still need to refine the sketch before I go any further.  I think she will most likely be an angel fairy; although it's such a small frame, I'm not sure how much of her wings will show.

Feliz Dia de los Muertos / Happy Day of the Dead Gothic Latina Original Painting + Sketch Options...

Happy Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead from http://www.lisarusso.com!  This holiday lasts from today until tomorrow, but those we've loved are always in our hearts.

The original, prints, and LE ACEO prints (minus text, text available upon request on prints) available here.

For my current work in progress Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead painting, I traced over my sketch and did three make up options.  Here are the two sketches I decided against, they both have potential though and some of the make up design options may be incorporated into future catrina sugar skull calavera paintings.
