Almost Complete Rose Fairy Maiden Painting Work in Progress...

This rose fairy maiden painting is almost complete.  I was going to give her the hint of a blouse, but I've decided not to.  There are pencil marks on her shoulders that I'm going to cover over with more skin tones.  She is titled "Rose Immersion" and is a garden guardian.

Petals Revealed Work in Progress Fairy Rose Maiden Painting...

I have started on the petals on my fairy rose maiden painting.  I think the edge of the bangs are a little too heavy handed when compared with the petals I have started on the rose on this work in progress, but I'm going to finish the rose before I decide about that.

Jamie Sweetman: Elemental of the Earth Art Show + Flower Maiden Work in Progress

Last week I visited the Sturt Haaga Gallery at Descanso Gardens and I was thrilled to see Jamie Sweetman's artworks up on the wall.  Earlier this year, I took some drawing workshops with her at the Norton Simon Museum.  There are works up by other artists in a variety of styles, but on this visit, I only had the opportunity to photograph her works.  This show runs until November 24th of this year, if you're in the area, I think it's definitely worth taking a look.  If I get a chance to visit again before the show ends, I'll try to take some photographs to share of art by some of the other artists, it's an interesting show.

A Bit More Progress on My Rose Girl Painting & A Gift From Stacy of MagicLoveCrow...

I was the lucky winner of this beautiful crow painting by Stacy of MagicLoveCrow.  For those that haven't met Stacy yet, she is an incredibly sweet and charming artist who focuses on crows in her art.  Some are in this beautiful style, some are adorable little baby crows, and more!  Her art is wonderful and she is one of the most sweet and positive people I've had the joy to meet online.  If you haven't already, please check out her blog here and her etsy shop here!

Here is another work in progress shot on my big eye rose girl painting.  I've mainly worked on her face, but I've yet to get to all of the details...

A Bit More Progress on My Big Eye Girl Painting...

Here is another work in progress shot.  She has light blue eyes (although only one is showing, the other one is just as pretty as this one, I assure you ;) ) and I've done some work on her neck.  I haven't decided yet what color her blouse will be, I'm going to also wait on that until I get further in with the painting...

A Bit of Progress on My Big Eye Girl Painting...

I haven't come up with a title as of yet for my big eye girl...  Here is a work in progress shot.  I've done some more with the background.  I'm not sure if this is where I'll leave it, but I've decided to move on for now.  I still might change it, but I want to have the painting mostly finished before I make that call...

29 Faces Challenge Completed & a New Painting Started...

29 Faces Shared in September All Together

I'm taking a small break from sharing the LACMA Surrealist show this Monday and sharing a grouping of my 29 faces for the 29 faces challenge.  The challenge was to share 29 faces in the month of September, and it was definitely inspiring.  I tried some poses and angles I don't usually attempt, some worked out, some didn't.  This time I shared a mix of sketches that I did specifically for the challenge and paintings that I'd done before...

I'm not sure if I'll participate in the challenge again or not or when, I'm leaning towards yes, but we'll see.  If you're interested in learning more about the challenge, the information is here:

This is the start of a painting from one of the faces I sketched for the challenge.  It is a work in progress.  At this point I just have the sketch down and some texture for the background.

29 Faces Challenge, Face 29!

This is my 29th face for the 29 faces challenge!  The challenge is to share 29 faces in the month of September.  This girl is one I've redrawn.  I typically start with a rough sketch, then if I decide to use it for a painting, I redraw it more carefully.  For this peekaboo look girl, the changes are fairly subtle.  I've changed the shape of her eye slightly and the side of her face a bit as well.  For tomorrow, I'll try to put together all of the 29 faces on one page.  I think the challenge was definitely worth doing!
