This week my featured painting is "Seahorse Friend."  This little seahorse friend is focused on meeting with his other seahorse and mermaid friends...  He has big eyes for a seahorse and is inspired by two different kinds of seahorses, one with willowy spiney extrusions and the other with incandescent hues. The style has a fantasy surrealism feel.  The original seahorse painting is available for purchase on my website as are art prints and LE ACEO prints!  

Most of my art is also available on my website at lisarusso.com; however, on the first Tuesday of the month, I like to put some art prints and LE ACEO prints on ebay at a lower promotional rate for the duration of the auctions...  This month, my theme is a selection of my purple flowers, you may see them here.

June 13-19 Sketches

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She seems to have a contemplative quality.  I think she is most likely a goddess, although she could also be a fairy angel or a mermaid.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in June. This is from day 13.

Here is a sketch of a tiger lily.  These lilies have such grace...  I'm unsure if I'll paint this sketch or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

Here is a sketch of an impatiens flower.  I'm not very familiar with these flowers, but I enjoy trying new blooms when I sketch...  I'm unsure if I'll paint this sketch or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

Here is a sketch of some redbud blossoms.  I love these flowers, I'm considering getting a western redbud tree for the front yard...  I'm unsure if I'll paint this sketch or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed Gothic maiden.  My reference looked a little like Priss of Blade Runner, but I don't think that translated to my sketch, I want to remember to ask Alex how to sketch frizzy hair.  Now I think she looks a bit like she's a heroine / super hero, with her vigilante mask to protect her identity...  I think she is most likely a fairy angel, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

Mini Work in Progress Update on my Original Mermaid with Seahorses Painting...

Here is a work in progress view of my mermaid with seahorses painting.  I've worked on her eyelashes, her lips, and a bit of shading; but she still needs her hair!  I had hoped to have this 11"x14" painting done by this Tuesday, but I'm now hoping I will have her done for next Tuesday...

Continuing Work in Progress on my Original Mermaid with Seahorses Painting...

Here is a work in progress view of my big eye mermaid with her seahorse friends painting.  I've done some more layers on her neck and shoulders.  Her face is started, but I'm not quite done with the shading.  I think the changes will be fairly subtle, but while I'm close, I'm not quite ready to move on to her eyebrows, eyelashes, and lips...

The Big Eyes of My Original Mermaid with Seahorses Painting Work in Progress...

Here is a work in progress view of my mermaid with her seahorse friends painting.  I've completed her big blue eyes.  I'm experimenting with painting on panel right now, in some ways I like it better than working on canvas, in other ways I miss the canvas.  I'm also going to put some gesso on some of the canvases I have and see how I like that.  I think the hot weather makes it an excellent time for doing that!

Here is a work in progress view of my mermaid with her seahorse friends painting.  I'm pretty much done with the seahorses and am almost ready to begin work on the mermaid.  I've also been working on my dragon painting, I am close to being done with the sky!
