Original Big Eye Mermaid with Starfish Painting! Art Prints & ACEO Prints! Big Eye Fantasy Mermaid WIP Work in Progress Toned Drawing...

"Looking In" Original Painting on 11"x11" Porthole Frame Here

This week my featured painting is "Looking In," an original painting of a big eye brunette mermaid with a starfish friend. She has huge inquisitive brown eyes.  She is painted directly on a porthole frame and there is some texture to the starfish.  The piece has a surreal lowbrow fantasy feel. I love mermaids so...  The original painting is available for purchase on my website as are art prints and LE ACEO prints!

Most of my art is also available on my website at lisabellarusso.com; however, on the first Tuesday of the month, I like to put some art prints and LE ACEO prints on ebay at a lower promotional rate for the duration of the auctions...  This month, my theme is mermaids, you may see them here.

Big Eye Fantasy Mermaid WIP Work in Progress Toned Drawing...

This is a project I have on the drawing board, in a manner of speaking.  This big eyed mermaid has a seashell crown.  Right now I'm working on a toned drawing of her.  It is very much a work in progress at this point.  I am still laying in the base tones, then I'll add some lights, then some more darks, and then the brightest lights...  I've also transferred her to a canvas and I'm looking forward to putting some paint down on her in the not too distant future.

May 26-29 Sketches

Here is a sketch of a peony.  These flowers have a glorious abundance of petals...  I'm unsure if I'll paint this sketch or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in May.  This is from day 26.

This is a rough sketch.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She has a peaceful quality...  I think she is most likely a mermaid, although she could also be a fairy angel or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

Here is a sketch of an African daisy.  These flowers have a sweet appeal...  I'm unsure if I'll paint this or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

me (Lisa Isabella Russo) with Audrey Kawasaki's painting at the House of Blues to show scale

While I was on my way to my Las Laguna Gallery Show, I stopped for lunch at the House of Blues in Anaheim.  They have this mural by Audrey Kawasaki.  She's one of my favorite artists.  I went to her solo show not that long ago, but while I haven't put together the images for that yet, I thought you might enjoy seeing this wonderful work of art she created.  Unlike shows which are only available for viewing briefly and I tend to not getting them ready to share until after they've closed, I think this piece of art will be available for viewing for quite some time...  The food was also fine and musicians were practicing while we ate, it was really very nice and I hope you'll enjoy my pictures of her painting.

I love everything about this mural, well except for that it isn't mine, but I felt very lucky to go and see her art in person...  Her faces are incredible and the hands she paints and draws are so delicate and lovely.  The flowers are also so beautiful.

Whilst I have continued to sketch daily, I spent my time getting this ready and haven't had a chance to prep my sketch yet for today.  I'll try to get caught up on posting my daily sketches tomorrow.

WIP Mermaid & Starfish Art Original Painting Work in Progress + February Sketches, Sketch 13, Big Eye Angel Fairy...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP painting I am reworking a big eye mermaid.  I have given her more of a button nose than she had before, changed the shape of her lips a bit, and enhanced her eye makeup.  I've blocked in her starfish friend in a lighter color than I'll be using, I'll do some shading on the starfish, add some texture, and then do some more shading.  At that point, I think I will be done with this painting.  I tend to rework only rarely; but in this case, I could clearly see how I wanted to enhance her.  I have two more of these frames, I would like to do a couple more mermaid paintings on them at some point.

This big eyed beauty has a 7 3/4” x 7 3/4” Image Area on a 11 1/2"x11 1/2"x1 1/2 Frame; she is painted directly on the frame in acrylics.

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  She has a quixotic and a hat of roses that drapes down with a veil.  I think she is most likely an angel, although she could also be a goddess or a mermaid.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.  I think I will try to paint yesterday's maiden, but I probably won't get started on her until next month at some point as I need to sketch the specific flowers in her hair and this month is mostly focused on faces...

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in February.  This is day 13.

This is a rough sketch.  I am also participating in the February 29 Faces Challenge, this is face 13.

My Photograph an Orange Rose at Descanso Gardens + January Sketch Art, Day 25 Sketches, Starfish...

I took this photograph of this orange rose at Descanso Gardens a while back.  I've been searching through my photographs for roses for an angel fairy I am working on the details of and while this one isn't quite what I was looking for, I think the colors in this sunset sunrise rose are so beautiful...  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

I love to paint flowers, you may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here are some sketches of starfish.  I don't think I've sketched a starfish before, they are fun to draw.  One of these may be an addition to a mermaid painting that I am reworking...

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in January.  This is day 25.

These are rough sketches.
