Happy Lunar New Year! Original Big Eye Cute Purple Year of the Snake Painting & Rough Sketches of Two Cuban Tody Birds for Birbfest 2025!

Wishing you a happy Lunar New Year!  Every year for Chinese New Year, I try to present artwork of the year's Zodiac animal, this time, it is year of the snake.  I painted this one specifically to celebrate the new year.  It is my first snake painting!  In lilac purple hues and with big rainbow eyes, this cute snake has auspicious coils and is titled "Caihong Yan Zi She."

The original painting is duo oils on cradled wood and measures 7"x5"

If you are interested in the original please contact me.  If you're interested in prints and aren't in a huge hurry, they are available if you'd like, please let me know.

The fluff and the grump...

Here are two rough sketches of Cuban Tody birds for day 29 of #birbfest2025.  They were created with a mechanical pencil and an eraser in my sketchbook.  One bird is smol and fluffy, the other bird is a wee bit grumpy.

I haven't completed a drawing every day for the challenge, but I've done a quick sketch as often as I had a chance.  I plan on creating some paintings from a selection of these birbs in the coming year...

This is a WIP work in progress image of my Year of the Snake painting for Chinese Lunar New Year.  It has delicate purple and lilac hues.  The next part that I'll work on is the snake's rainbow hued eyes...  I'm excited to be sharing the early stages of my traditional fine art!

This week my featured painting is "Fortune Smiles."  This little piglet was painted in honor of Chinese New Year...  Since the year of the horse I have been painting a small painting a year to honor the lunar new year, I haven't painted them all yet, but I have been creating one for each year as we go.  Year of the Pig/Boar was a joy to paint.  The art has a realist impressionist feel to the style.

Most of my art is also available on my website at lisarusso.com; however, on the first Tuesday of the month, I like to put some art prints and LE ACEO prints on ebay at a lower promotional rate for the duration of the auctions...  This month, my theme is Chinese Zodiac Animals (although a Western dragon has sneaked in), you may see them here.
