Sylvia Fein & Leonora Carrington: Surrealist Artists from In Wonderland at LACMA + Mermaid WIP

A while back, I went to the LACMA show In Wonderland: The Surrealist Adventures of Women Artists in Mexico and the United States.  Here are some pieces by Sylvia Fein and Leonora Carrington.  The first piece, Muchacha de Ajijic (Girl of Ajijic) by Sylvia Fein was one of my favorites from the show.  I was also greatly drawn to Green Tea (La dame ovale) by Leonora Carrington.  There are so many wonderful details in that painting.

Here is a work in progress view of my mermaid painting "Looking In."  I'm almost finished with her.  I hope to have her done by tomorrow, but there's a little more shading that I'd like to do.

Itty Bitty Bit of Work in Progress on Porthole Mermaid Painting...

Here is a teensy bit of a work in progress update on "Looking In," my porthole mermaid painting.  I only had a tiny amount of time to work on this painting, so I painted her lips.  Some days the time slips away from me and I want desperately to paint.  I wanted to forge ahead quickly, but these days that isn't how I usually paint...

Looking In Mermaid Painting Work in Progress...

Here is a little bit more progress on my mermaid painting "Looking In."  In this work in progress, I've done her eyelashes and eyebrows.  I also did some subtle shading adjustments.  Right now I have a deadline I'm hoping to meet with another painting, so this one is the secondary painting right now, but I haven't forgotten her...

Mermaid Painting Work in Progress + 29 Faces 20...

Here is a bit more progress on the mermaid painting "Looking In" that I am working on.  I'm still working on her face, there's more to do, but she's starting to come together...

Here is a sketch of a big eyed girl with long flowing hair.  She is my 20th face for the 29 faces challenge.  The challenge is to share 29 faces in the month of September.

Work in Progress Mermaid Painting + 29 Faces 13...

Here is a bit of progress on the mermaid painting "Looking In" that I am working on.  Although I'm not done with her face yet, I am thinking about the color of her hair.  I had intended to give her some blue streaks, but I'm getting the feeling she wants her hair to be dark brown.

Here is a sketch of a girl with a red tailed hawk perched on her shoulder.  She is my 13th face for the 29 faces challenge.  The challenge is to share 29 faces in the month of September.

Work in Progress Mermaid Painting + 29 Faces 6...

Here is a mermaid I am working on.  I usually don't have the title until after I'm done, but in this case, I do.  She is titled "Looking In."  I found three of these porthole frames at the Goodwill and I snatched them up, they had some paper sailboat prints on them, but I removed those and put down a coat of gesso before I began.

Face 6

While I did do a more final sketch from yesterday's face, I didn't manage to get started on her on canvas, so I'll try to post the revised sketch and the start of that painting another day.  I'm out of a paint color that I want to use...  So, here is the sketch for this mermaid.  She is my 6th face for the 29 faces challenge.  The challenge is to create 29 faces in the month of September.
