This week my featured painting is "School's Out," an original angelfish painting.  This angel fish is currently away from his school but will rejoin them for a larger mermaid painting this is a preliminary piece for.  The original has some interference violet shimmer seen in some angles that I've tried to capture in the image above.  The art has a lowbrow realist feel... 

Most of my art is also available on my website at lisarusso.com; however, on the first Tuesday of the month, I like to put some art prints and LE ACEO prints on ebay at a lower promotional rate for the duration of the auctions...  This #mermay month, my theme is mermaids and mermaid friends, you may see them here.

May 19-23 Sketches

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She a look of gentle concern...  I think she is most likely a fairy angel, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in May. This is from day 19.

Here is a sketch of some snowmound spirea flowers.  This is only a small group of a larger cluster...  I'm unsure if I'll paint this sketch or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

Here is a sketch of a flower.  I believe it is a coneflower, but I'm not entirely sure, I just thought it had a sweetness to it that made it perfect for Mother's Day.  I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

Here is a sketch of a rosebud.  I love roses, they are one of my favorite flowers.  I love how it looks in blue.  It is in my tiny sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.   I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.


I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in November.  This is day 29.

This is a sketch in colored pencils.  I'm not really a colored pencil artist but I am exploring something new for the sketchbook.  I will be juxtaposing my usual rough sketches with the colored pencil sketches at varying intervals.  I tend to sketch very lightly, so these and my usual pencil ones are darkened a bit in photoshop for online viewing.

Portrait Art of Me by the Wonderous Rose Adare

I love birds, mainly I think because my mother loves birds and my grandfather loved birds.  When my mom saw this red male cardinal, her face lit up and I knew I would not be selling the piece.  I have it listed as sold so that it's clear that it's not longer available, but I actually gave it to her as a gift.  The piece has a soft realist feel.  Although I no longer have the original, I do have this piece available as prints and ACEOs!

Marigold Flowers Sketch Art + Dragon Website Update...

Here is a sketch of some marigolds on canvas.  I started sketching for this in October and then put it aside for a while.  At this point I only have the sketch on canvas.  I've also painted the edges, I tend to do that before I start painting on the canvas as I don't want to risk getting the edge paint on to the painting itself.  As you can see, I tend to get paint over the edges, but I can fix that when I paint the background...

29 Faces Challenge in September All Together Now & Big Eye Fairy Angel Sketch Face 30

Twice a year, Ayala Art hosts the 29 faces challenge in February and then again in September. For 29 Faces, the challenge is to share 29 faces during the given month. Last year I participated once for the first time, this year I participated both times.  I met some of my goals for the challenge and didn't meet others, but it was definitely a challenge I enjoyed.  I wanted to sketch 29 faces, so while at the start I shared a painting I had finished the day before, today in addition to the complete group, I also have one additional sketch.  So for me this time I managed 29 sketches of faces...  The challenge was very inspiring!

This is face 30 for the challenge, but sketch 29...  She is a big eye fairy angel or possibly mermaid sketch.

A Photograph of Some Fish at the Rainforest Cafe & Face 25 for 29 Faces...

This photograph is of a some fish in the aquarium at the Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney.  While we were waiting to be seated, I took some photos of the fish.  I loved how the fish in the top left corner looked a bit translucent.  I hope you will enjoy this photo...
