I'm not really sure what dragons and the 4th of July have to do with each other, but this dragon wanted to celebrate with you and I didn't want to say no...  He or she (I'm respecting the dragon's privacy) does breath fire and some people like fireworks on the fourth, so maybe there's the connection.  This dragon is perched atop a rock, guarding treasure nearby.  I hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday and are good to the dragons in your life too!

Here is a sketch of a flower.  I believe it is a coneflower, but I'm not entirely sure, I just thought it had a sweetness to it that made it perfect for Mother's Day.  I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it. 

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in May.  This is day 14.

Here is a sketch of an anthurium flower.  Flowers have so many shapes, I find them fascinating to sketch.  It is in my tiny sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.   I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in November.  This is day 22.  

This is a sketch in colored pencils.  I'm not really a colored pencil artist but I am exploring something new for the sketchbook.  I will be juxtaposing my usual rough sketches with the colored pencil sketches at varying intervals.  I tend to sketch very lightly, so these and my usual pencil ones are darkened a bit in photoshop for online viewing.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  I think this gothic femme has a very languid look.  I think she is most likely a mermaid, although she could also be an angel fairy.   I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

Here is a sketch of a gothic big eye maiden who has hair cascading in a peekaboo style. I think I'd like to make her a mermaid, I have mermaids on the mind; but it's also possible she may be an angel, fairy, or possibly a goddess.  I'm not sure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her...

Marigold Flowers Sketch Art + Dragon Website Update...

Here is a sketch of some marigolds on canvas.  I started sketching for this in October and then put it aside for a while.  At this point I only have the sketch on canvas.  I've also painted the edges, I tend to do that before I start painting on the canvas as I don't want to risk getting the edge paint on to the painting itself.  As you can see, I tend to get paint over the edges, but I can fix that when I paint the background...

LACMA Show Fashioning Fashion VI & a Work in Progress Dragon...

I was looking through my reference images files, and I came across two folders with images from the LACMA show Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700–1915.  I love fashion and find it very inspiring.  Here are some of the images to the show, I hope that you will enjoy them.  I will post more from this show on other Mondays, although probably not always consecutively.

Continuing Work in Progress on my Original Dragon Painting...

Here is a work in progress view of my dragon painting.  I like how it's going, but I didn't quite get as far as I'd hoped yesterday.  I'm hoping to have this 8"x10" painting done by Tuesday, but we'll see how today goes...

Work in Progress Dragon Original Painting...

Here is a work in progress view of my 8"x10" dragon painting "Dragonsrock."  I've been working on the rock the dragon loves so much, I think I am ready to move on to the dragon proper!  I'm almost done with the eye, I think eyes are so crucial that I tend to do them fairly early on.

Work in Progress Dragon & a Hesitant Fairy Kitten...

Here is a work in progress view of an 8"x10" dragon painting.  I've finished with the sky.  I did some touch ups on some of the wet in wet that I'd done as well as doing a few layers on the sections under the wings that I'd forgotten...  I've also started his rock, I'm planning on adding some texture to it and then I can start on the dragon actual.  I'm considering "Dragonsrock" as a title.

Here is a work in progress view of my dragon painting.  The painting is on an 8"x10" panel  I don't think I'm quite done with the background, but I've done a few layers on it.  I'm going to put it to the side for a while and then decide how I'd like to continue...
