My Photograph of Flowers from a Tree at Huntington Gardens + Sketch of a Big Eye Mermaid, Fairy, & Angel/ December 4, 5, & 6 Art Sketches Daily...

I took photographs of a flowering tree at Huntington Gardens in the fall.  I thought this tree was gorgeous and luminous...  Here is a close up of the tree's flowers.  I'm not sure what the tree is called, in addition to being in bloom, it had thorns running up the body of the trunk.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

I love to paint flowers, you may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She seems to have an inquisitive nature...  I think she is most likely a mermaid, although she could also be a fairy angel or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in December. This is from day 4.

I would like to try to reach a goal of 100 faces sketched on consecutive days, I started this effort on September 1st, 2017...  This is face 95.

This is a rough sketch.

I took this photograph of this flowering tree at Huntington Gardens in the fall.  I thought this tree was gorgeous and luminous...  If I remember, I'll try to post a close up of the tree's flowers in my next photo post.  I'm not sure what the tree is called, in addition to being in bloom, it had thorns running up the body of the trunk.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

My Photograph of a Golden Tree Bough at Descanso Gardens + April Sketches Art, Day 27, Fairy Angel...

I took this photograph of this golden tree bough at Descanso Gardens.  I thought it was interesting because it gleamed with fall colors in the midst of spring.  I don't know what kind of tree this it, but I thought it was quite lovely.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

Here is a sketch of a big eyed Gothic maiden.  She's glancing back at us...  I think she is most likely a fairy angel, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

My Photograph of a Cherry Blossom Tree at Descanso Gardens + March Sketches Art, Day 23, Angel Fairy...

I took this photograph of this cherry blossom tree at Descanso Gardens some previous year, although the cherry blossom trees are in bloom there right now.  I thought this pathway with the gleaming cherry blossoms amidst the oak trees had a magical feel.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

Art Sketch of a Tree, Potential Wednesday Background, March 14 Daily Sketch...

Here is a sketch of a tree, I believe it is a weeping willow tree, but I'm not sure.  I love trees and I've never drawn one like this before.  This is one of three potential backgrounds I'm sketching for my Wednesday Addams painting.  I started off with about 20 options, narrowed it down to 6, then tried them in photoshop with the sketch of Wednesday.  This is one of the three I liked the best, I sketched one yesterday and I have one more to sketch before I decide which one to use.

Ceramics Project From Some Time Ago...

So this is a ceramics project I did in High School.  I used to love ceramics.  I no longer have access to a kiln and I seriously miss it!  There are definitely things I would do differently with this throwback Thursday piece if I were to do another version of it, but there's a lot I like about it too.  I hope you will enjoy seeing one of my earlier works.  I think it shows my deep and abiding love of nature...

Red Magical Mushrooms Website Update...

Now Up on My Website!
"Mushroom Village" Original Painting Sold
Open Edition 5"x7" Giclee Prints & Limited Edition Giclee ACEO Prints Here

"Mushroom Village" is a whimsical piece inspired by some mushrooms in the knoll of a tree.  I saw them on one of my visits to Descanso Gardens and took a photograph that I was inspired from at home.  The original mushrooms were brown, but for this piece, red was how I felt like going.  I may do a larger piece that incorporates a fairy by the mushrooms at some point...  The piece has a soft realist impressionist feel touched with magic.  This original is sold, but I do have it available as prints and ACEOs!

I've been working on my angel fairy, but I think I lost the folds and need to re re paint...  I'm hoping I'll get it eventually, I went to look at some incredible painted folds at the Norton Simon, I'm hoping that will help...

My website at http://www.lisarusso.com has many more paintings available, some of them inspired by additional photographs that I took at Descanso Gardens!

Every week on Tuesday, I try to list a small original, some giclee art prints, and giclee LE ACEO prints at promotional prices. Visit here to see what I have available this week!

My Photograph of Oak Trees at Descanso Gardens + 29 Faces Sketch Art, Face 16...

I took this photograph of these oak trees at Descanso Gardens a while back.  There's so much beauty in nature, the flowers are gorgeous there, but I also love to look up when I'm there and see the trees with the light shining through...  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  I think she has a delicate kindness...  I think she is most likely an angel fairy, although she could also be a mermaid or goddess.  I'm not sure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

She is face 16 for 29 faces in September.  The goal is to share 29 faces in the month of September.

Jamie Sweetman: Elemental of the Earth Art Show + Flower Maiden Work in Progress

Last week I visited the Sturt Haaga Gallery at Descanso Gardens and I was thrilled to see Jamie Sweetman's artworks up on the wall.  Earlier this year, I took some drawing workshops with her at the Norton Simon Museum.  There are works up by other artists in a variety of styles, but on this visit, I only had the opportunity to photograph her works.  This show runs until November 24th of this year, if you're in the area, I think it's definitely worth taking a look.  If I get a chance to visit again before the show ends, I'll try to take some photographs to share of art by some of the other artists, it's an interesting show.
