Feliz dia de los Muertos!  Happy Day of the Dead! This is my painting for the Cempasuchil : Instruments of the Wind Exhibit at the Ontario Museum of art.  I haven't made it to the show yet, but I am still hoping to.

This Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead  show runs from October 6th to November 27th.

This is "La Sonrisa," an original big eye fantasy painting of a sugar skull inspired calavera.  There is some texture in the background. DDLD / DOTD is a celebration, initially of Mexican origin, that remembers those who are gone from us that we still hold in our hearts.  She has big brown eyes and long brown hair streaked with purple.  The art has a lowbrow surreal feel...

Huehueteotl Aztec Dancers

The Huehueteotl Aztec Dancers were featured at the Dia de los Muertos "A Celebration of Life and Love" opening at the San Juan Capistrano Library.  If you'd like to see some of the art from the exhibit, please visit here.  The dancers were incredible and their headresses were amazing.  There were so many feathers.  I loved the percussion from the drums and the instruments aroud their feet.  I hope you'll enjoy these photographs that I took of them at the opening.

Whilst I have continued to sketch daily, I spent my time getting this ready and haven't had a chance to prep my sketches yet.  I'll try to get caught up on posting my daily sketches tomorrow.

The date of our Day of the Dead event and reception is Saturday, 11/4.  The exhibit and festival will include Aztec dancers, free face painting, ballet folklorico, mariachis, sugar skull making along with other crafts, poetry, and possibly live painting.  The bulk of that entertainment will be between 1:00p - 3:00p.

Alex Ledante also has works in the show and we will strive to be at the reception.  Please coordinate with us if you'd like to meet there...

Here is a sketch of an iris.  It is based on a photograph I took at Huntington Gardens.  I think flowers have a great beauty.  I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.


I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in October.  This is day 4.

I am listing "Remembrance," an original painting of a big eye calavera sugar skull maiden.  Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead is a festivity that honors those we have lost.  I think that's something beautiful.

I also have additional giclee art and ACEO prints here this week from Tuesday to Tuesday with a theme of big brown eyes.  I have brown eyes and while I paint many colors of eyes, I like to see brown eyes represented as well...

Marigolds Flower Sketch Art & Big Eye Gothic Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead Femme Website Update...

Here are a couple of sketches of some marigold flowers for a painting I'd like to do.  I'm thinking the top marigolds would have a horizontal composition or the bottom marigolds would have either a vertical composition or perhaps square.  I haven't decided yet which to do or which way to go...
