Sketchbook West Las Laguna Gallery Show + Sketch of Lily Flowers, March 19 Art Sketches Daily...

Sketchbook West Exhibition

This is the cover of my tiny sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.  I've shared some of the sketches that are within here, but some will be available for viewing for the first time at the show.  The sketchbook will be displayed at the Sketchbook West Exhibition along with the sketchbooks of additional artists.  There will be a mix of fantasy, floral, animal, and assorted sketches within my sketchbook.  The gallery will have white gloves available for looking through the sketchbooks.  I'm hoping to be at the opening, but I will also update at what time I will be there when I have a better idea of when that will be.  I very much enjoy looking at artist's sketches, so I am looking forward to seeing the show!  I have also had one of my larger works selected to be shown there which I will share once I get her framed and ready to go.

Here is a sketch of a couple of flowers.  I think they are a type of lily, but I am not sure which one, they are mostly white with some delicate pink accents.  These may be for the hair of a maiden, I still need to sketch quite a few more though to determine which ones best suit her...

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in March.  This is day 19.

This is a rough sketch.  You may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Sketch of a Seahorse, Art Sketches Daily, December 15 Sketchbook...

Here is a sketch of a seahorse.  I love seahorses!  I'm not sure why it was hanging out upside down in my reference, but I decided to sketch it as shown...  It is in my tiny sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.   I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in December.  This is day 15.

This is a sketch in colored pencils.  You may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.  I will be juxtaposing my usual rough sketches with the colored pencil sketches at varying intervals.  I tend to sketch very lightly, so these and my usual pencil ones are darkened a bit in photoshop for online viewing.

The opening of the Whittier Art Gallery December Miniatures and Small Works Exhibit with my small lisianthus painting was very nice, I'll try share some of my pictures when I get a chance.

Sketch of Big Eye Fairy, Art Sketches Daily, November 20, Sketchbook...

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  She seems to have a wise gaze.  I think she is most likely a fairy angel, although she could also be a goddess or a mermaid.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.   She is in my tiny sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.  I am using Col-Erase Prismacolor pencils, I like having the option to erase a bit.

November Sketches, Sketch Art 12 + 13, Anemone Flowers + Seashells...

***I am pleased to report that my left hand continues to heal.  Hand permitting, I will most likely post again on Tuesday, after that I hope to resume my usual posting schedule.***

Here is a sketch of anemone flowers.  It is in my tiny sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.   I'm unsure if I'll paint them or not, but I did enjoy sketching them.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in November.  This is from day 12.

This is a sketch in colored pencils.  You may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.  I'm not really a colored pencil artist but I am exploring something new for the sketchbook, I was going to try inking in October, but the pages of this Moleskine sketchbook are far too thin for that.  I will be juxtaposing my usual rough sketches with the colored pencil sketches at varying intervals.  I tend to sketch very lightly, so these and my usual pencil ones are darkened a bit in photoshop for online viewing.

Here is a sketch of a seashell.  It is in my tiny sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.   I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

Inktober October 2, Sketches Daily, Seashell Sketch Art...

It looks like Alex and I will be attending the tail end of the closing party for the Coaster Show today.  Additional details for the show are here.

Here is a sketch of some seashells.  They are in a small sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.  The sketchbook I was using bled through and the sketches are visible behind and in front. I'm trying to uses this sketchbook for a different challenge, but I don't think the inking is working for me at this time...  I think I'm going to start with colored pencil sketches, but I'm going to start from scratch when an identical sketchbook arrives and just use this one for practice until then.  I'm unsure if I'll paint the shells or not, but I did enjoy sketching them.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in October.  This is day 2.   I was attempting Inktober, but I think that my second sketch will be my last inked sketch, perhaps next year I'll be able to do this challenge. The goal is to share 31 inked sketches in the month of October. To learn more about the challenge, please click here.

This is a rough sketch that has been inked.  You may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Inktober, October 1, Sketches Daily, Seashell Sketch Art...

Here is a sketch of some seashells.  They are in a small sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.  I am attempting to ink my sketches, my hands tend to shake a bit when I ink, so while this may be good practice, I'm not sure how well it will go.  Also the paper in the book is thin and some of the color from one shell transfered to the next page, I'll probably sketch a couple more shells tomorrow and put a paper behind the page when I ink...  I'm unsure if I'll paint them or not, but I did enjoy sketching them.
