My Photograph of a Flowering Tree at Huntington Gardens + Sketch of a Big Eye Fairy/ November 29 Art Sketches Daily...

I took this photograph of this flowering tree at Huntington Gardens in the fall.  I thought this tree was gorgeous and luminous...  If I remember, I'll try to post a close up of the tree's flowers in my next photo post.  I'm not sure what the tree is called, in addition to being in bloom, it had thorns running up the body of the trunk.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

I love to paint flowers, you may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She has a sweet quixotic gaze...  I think she is most likely a fairy angel, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in November. This is day 29.

I would like to try to reach a goal of 100 faces sketched on consecutive days, I started this effort on September 1st, 2017...  This is face 90.

Original Big Eye Redhead Angel Fairy Painting + Art Prints & ACEO Prints! November Sketches...

"Oncoming Storm" Original 11"x14" Painting on Canvas Here

This week my featured painting is "Oncoming Storm". She has huge green eyes, red hair, and her wings are outstretched behind her.  I think she offers protection for the storm that is building.  The painting has a lowbrow surreal fantasy feel.  This original big eye gothic angel fairy painting is available for purchase on my website as are art prints and LE ACEO prints!

Most of my art is also available on my website at lisarusso.com; however, on the first Tuesday of the month, I like to put some art prints and LE ACEO prints on ebay at a lower promotional rate for the duration of the auctions...  This month, my theme is purple flowers, you may see them here.

WIP Big Eye Ghost Art Original Painting Work in Progress + Sketches, November 25, 26, & 27/ Big Eye Mermaid, Goddess, & Fairy Daily Sketch

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP painting of a big eye ghost, I've been working on her hair.  I've been adding layers of a darker glaze; next will come the edges and then some drips from her hair.  "Moonrise" is inspired by an African American folktale "I Know Moonrise" as retold by S.E. Schlosser.  She drowned in the marsh and longs for her family.

This big eyed beauty is on a 16"x20" canvas in acrylics.  This piece and "Orchid Intrigue" have been accepted by the Ontario Museum of History & Art "Diversity and Inclusion:  The Influence of African American Art in Southern California Exhibit."  They accepted them as works in progress, so I'm a busy bee trying to get them finished hopefully well before the deadline...

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving if you celebrate it and a wonderful Thursday if you do not (or already did)!

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP painting of a big eye orchid angel fairy, I've been working on her hair.  I still need to paint her wispies, but I'm taking a bit of a break from her hair to start working on the orchid.  There is some gold leaf in the background.  She is part of my garden guardian series.  She is titled "Orchid Intrigue."

My Photograph of a Bird at Huntington Gardens + Sketch of a Big Eye Mermaid/ November 22 Art Sketches Daily...

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!  There is so much I am thankful for...

I took this photograph of this bird at Huntington Gardens, I believe it was in May.  I'm not sure what type of bird it was, but I thought is was so cute upside down and not to be dissuaded from whatever tasty goodies it was after...  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

Original Little Owl Bird Painting! 1st Tuesday Art Prints & ACEO Prints! November Sketches...

"Owlie" Original 10"x13" Painting on Wooden Plank here

This week my featured painting is "Owlie," an original Athene noctua owl painting.  Owlie is painted directly on a wood plank and would be great for fall or any time of the year!  There is hanging hardware on the back of the original so it is ready to hang.  This original bird painting is available for purchase on my website as are art prints and LE ACEO prints!  The art has a realist impressionist feel...

WIP Big Eye Ghost Art Original Painting Work in Progress + Sketch of a Big Eye Fairy & Goddess, November 18 & 19 Daily Sketches...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP painting of a big eye ghost, I've started on her hair.  After having done some tests for technique, I feel a bit more confident.  I've put in a couple of layers of her underpainting and will next proceed to glazing her hair a darker color.  "Moonrise" is inspired by an African American folktale "I Know Moonrise" as retold by S.E. Huehueteotl Aztec Dancers

The Huehueteotl Aztec Dancers were featured at the Dia de los Muertos "A Celebration of Life and Love" opening at the San Juan Capistrano Library.  If you'd like to see some of the art from the exhibit, please visit here.  The dancers were incredible and their headresses were amazing.  There were so many feathers.  I loved the percussion from the drums and the instruments aroud their feet.  I hope you'll enjoy these photographs that I took of them at the opening.

Whilst I have continued to sketch daily, I spent my time getting this ready and haven't had a chance to prep my sketches yet.  I'll try to get caught up on posting my daily sketches tomorrow.

Test Canvas for WIP Big Eye Ghost Art Original Painting Work in Progress + November Sketches, Sketch 11 & 12, Goddess & Fairy Bunny...

This is a test for the hair of my original acrylic work in progress WIP painting of a big eye ghost.  I actually have a number of tests on this canvas; the braid for Wednesday Addams, the hair/skin for my orchid guardian, the fins for "Teacher's Pets," and more.  When I'm trying something I've never painted before or that I think will be tricky, I sometimes like to try things out on my test canvas.  For "Moonrise" I've tried using layers, brushes, and differently sized sponges.  Having done these tests I've concluded the method which I think will work the best, it will actually be a combination of layering and different tools.  It looks like my test canvas is pretty full again, I think it's time to gesso over this one or start a new one...

This is a test for a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

WIP Big Eye Ghost Art Original Painting Work in Progress + November Sketches, Sketch 9 & 10, Angel & Fairy...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP painting of a big eye ghost.  I've adjusted her lips a little, added in some drips with her eye makeup, and pulled in her hair a bit with the background color, so that some of the background behind the less thick areas of hair will shine through.  Soon I'll do some experiments on my test canvas for her hair.  "Moonrise" is inspired by an African American folktale "I Know Moonrise" as retold by S.E. Schlosser.  She drowned in the marsh and longs for her family.

Original Lisianthus Flowers Painting! Art Prints & ACEO Prints! "A Celebration of Life and Love" Dia de los Muertos Exhibit...

"A Celebration of Life and Love"

Dia de los Muertos is to me a celebration of life and honoring those we have lost.  There is a great allure and solace in the love we share and this inspires me to express my joy in paint.  Eyes are the window to the truth of what is within, my big eyed calavera catrina beauties are how I share this love.  I was honored to participate in "A Celebration of Life and Love" at the San Juan Capistrano Library.

Some of the artwork I photographed at the show is here, I also saw some amazing Aztec dancers, but I will endeavor to share that another day...
