Original Mermaid with Seahorses Painting Work in Progress Continues & Seahorse Friend Website Update...

Here is a work in progress view of my mermaid with her seahorse friends painting.  I'm pretty much done with the seahorses and am almost ready to begin work on the mermaid.  I've also been working on my dragon painting, I am close to being done with the sky!

This little seahorse friend is focused on meeting with his other seahorse and mermaid friends...  He has big eyes for a seahorse and is inspired by two different kinds of seahorses, one with willowy spiney extrusions and the other with incandescent hues.  The style has a fantasy surrealism feel.  This piece available as an original, as prints, and Limited Edition ACEOs!

I am listing "Intensity," an original painting of a deep purple calla lily.  This piece is small and simple in composition, yet filled with a wonderful presence.

I also have additional giclee art and ACEO prints here this week with a theme of purple flowers; some naturally so, some imbued with colors of my imaginings...

LACMA Show Fashioning Fashion V & A Steampunk Fairy Website Update...

I was looking through my reference images files, and I came across two folders with images from the LACMA show Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700–1915.  I love fashion and find it very inspiring.  Here are some of the images to the show, I hope that you will enjoy them.  I will post more from this show on other Mondays, although probably not always consecutively.

Here is a work in progress view of my mermaid with her seahorse friends painting.  I'm working on the seahorses now.  Unfortunately summer tends to be my least productive season due to the heat, but I am enjoying working on this painting a lot, I love seahorses and mermaids!

Artist Grasiela Rodriguez, the SGV Comic Book Expo & Art Exibition, & a WIP View of My Dragon...

Grasiela Rodriguez invited Alex and I to the San Gabriel Valley Comic Book Expo.  She's a talented comic artist and painter as well as an exemplary chalk artist.  Check her out at her facebook page here and her website here.  She also helped to plan the event!  She is inspiring as a sweet and energetic person as well as as a multi talented artist.  The Expo had a lot of talented artists and interesting panels.  I went to one on the forgotten treasures of Mexican comics, but if I get a chance I'll do a separate post on that.  There were fun art activities for the kids upstairs as well as a SGV Comic Art Exhibition, the SGV Expo is done, but I believe the SGV Comic Art Expo runs until August 10th.  For more information, please visit their facebook page here.

Here is an updated work in progress view of my dragon painting.  Now the sky has a bit more drama.  I thought I was almost done with the sky, but Alex noticed that I forgot the sections underneath the dragon's wings...  So, while I have made progress on the sky, it turns out I have quite a bit to go...

Original Mermaid with Seahorses Painting Work in Progress...

Here is a work in progress view of my mermaid with her pet seahorses painting.  The painting is on an 11"x14" panel.  I've been working on the little wispy tendrils of the seahorses, but I think I made them a little fine.  I think I may need to go back in and make them a smidge thicker, but I think I'll work more on the seahorses bodies before I make that decision.  I've also been working on the background for the dragon painting, but it may be a little too wet right now to put on the scanner, I'll likely post an update on that one on Monday...
