My Photograph of a Scarab Beetle on a Flower at Huntington Gardens + Sketch of a Big Eye Fairy Angel & Mermaid/ October 3 & 4 Art Sketches Daily...

I took this photograph of a scarab beetle on a flower at Huntington Gardens.  I've seen June bugs before, I've even painted one; but never one supping the nectar of a flower before.  I think the flower is a daisy, but I am not certain.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

I love to paint animals, you may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She has sweet pigtails and a slight smile.  I think she is most likely a fairy angel, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in October. This is from day 3.

I would like to try to reach a goal of 100 faces sketched on consecutive days, I started this effort on September 1st, 2017...  This is face 33.

This is a rough sketch.

Original Big Eye Gothic Wednesday Addams Painting + Art Prints & ACEO Prints! Allusions and Allegories Exhibit by Jasmine Becket-Griffith Part II at the Corey Helford Gallery...

"Full of Woe" Original 11"x14" Acrylic Painting on a Canvas Here

This week my featured painting is "Full of Woe," an original fantasy painting.  This gothic Wednesday Addams inspired piece is set in a cemetery.  Wednesday has big brown eyes and her signature braids.  The original has some texture on the tombstones.  The art has a soft lowbrow surreal feel...

Most of my art is also available on my website at lisarusso.com; however, on the first Tuesday of the month, I like to put some art prints and LE ACEO prints on ebay at a lower promotional rate for the duration of the auctions...  This month, my theme is Halloween and Dia de los Muertos, with a bit of Wednesday thrown in; you may see them here.

Allusions and Allegories by Jasmine Becket-Griffith at the Corey Helford Gallery Part II

I went to see the Allusions and Allegories Exhibit by Jasmine Becket-Griffith at the Corey Helford Gallery some time ago.   She is one of my favorite artists and has a wonderful facebook page here.   I don't always go to openings, but this artist is enormously sweet, she even took a photo with me that I shared in Part I here!  The show was filled with so many beautiful pieces, I really want to share them all.  This is Part II of what will eventually be a three part series, I'll link them as I go.  The Allusions and Allegories Exhibition is CLOSED, but the gallery may have some of this artist's works available.

WIP Big Eye Ghost Art Original Painting Work in Progress + October Sketches, Sketch 1 & 2, Big Eye Mermaid & Goddess...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP painting of a big eye ghost, I've blocked in her background and started on her eyes. I still have more to do on her eyes before I move forward, I dreamt last night about painting them...  She is inspired by an African American folktale.

This big eyed beauty is on a 16"x20" canvas in acrylics.  I've been mainly focused on smaller works, this is my first large painting in quite some time.

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

WIP Peacock Bird Art Original Painting Work in Progress + Sketches, Sketch 28 & 29, Big Eye Fairy & Angel...

In this original acrylic painting of a peacock, I've laid in the background behind the feathers.  It looks like black here, but it's actually a very dark green with some blues.  Next I'll start with the gold leaf, peacocks are birds of many feathers...  The canvas that I'm painting on is 11"x14"

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

My Photograph of Lotus Flowers in the Chinese Gardens at Huntington Gardens + Sketch of a Big Eye Angel, Goddess, & Fairy/ September 25, 26, & 27 Art Sketches Daily...

I took this photograph of lotus flowers and a bridge at Huntington Gardens.  The Chinese gardens are a delight to see, there are linked ponds and beautiful pathways in addition to the lovely water lilies.  I believe that the time of the lotus lily has passed, but some of the smaller waterlilies may still be blooming.  I hope that you will enjoy the photos!

I love to paint flowers, you may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Art Sketch of a Big Eye Angel Fairy & Moon Ghost, September 21 & 22 Daily Sketches...

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She is glancing over her shoulder and her hair flows around her.  I think she is most likely an angel fairy, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.  She is one of three sketches I'm considering for my next garden guardian, I'm not sure yet which one will work best.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She has the most incredibly beautiful hair...  I'm not sure if I've captured it in the sketch, but I hope to do so if I paint her.  She is inspired by a folklore story and is a ghost who longs for family.  I'm hoping to paint her, but it remains to be seen if I'm able to follow up on this concept.
