My Photograph of a Black Cormorant Bird at Huntington Gardens + September Sketches Art, Day 21 Sketch, Big Eye Mermaid...

I took this photograph of this cormorant at Huntington Gardens.  I had never seen such a bird before the day I saw this one in the Chinese Gardens.  Interestingly enough, I saw another younger cormorant at Descanso Gardens the very next week...  These birds start off a lighter brown and become this beautiful black color as they get older.  I felt very fortunate to see and photograph this bird.  I hope that you will enjoy this photo!

I love to paint animals, you may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  Her eyes are softly closed and her hair cascades around her...  I think she is most likely a mermaid, although she could also be a goddess or a fairy angel.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in September.  This is day 21.   She is also face 21 for the 29 faces challenge in September.

This is a rough sketch.

I love your cormorant photo. I often watch them here at the Rhine, I love it when they spread their wings like they are doing yoga! Lovely sketch, too! Hugs, Valerie

sweet maiden with her closed eyes! Enjoyed your cute cormorant photo too! Interesting how they change colour as they age. We tend to get grey!

We have soooooo many Cormorants here. They are an invasive spices from China. They out fish all of our indigenous water foul so they are not too well liked here. I do like you beautiful girl though.

Thanks very much Magyar, Valerie-Jael, Christine, Stacy, and Nicole! I'm sorry the birds are invasive where you are Nicole, I've only seen them maybe three times around here...
