So, I didn't finish my scarecrow painting, my massive household project has been eating almost all of my time and energy; but Wednesday Addams and I wanted to wish you a happy, safe, and spooky Halloween (okay the safe is from me...).  The painting is 11"x14" acrylic with texture in some of the cemetary tombstones on canvas, framed.

Big Eye Eyed Fantasy Scarecrow Halloween WIP Work in Progress Toned Drawing / Art Sketch Daily #dailysketch #draweveryday...

 

This is a project I have on the drawing board, in a manner of speaking.  This big eyed scarecrow might not be very scary...  Right now I'm working on a toned drawing of her.  It is a work in progress at this point.  I am still debating on how to handle her hair and I've yet to lay in any highlights...  I've also transferred her to a panel and I'm looking forward to putting some paint down on her in the not too distant future.

I was inspired by Camilla d'Errico's #Drawloween prompt list last year; although I didn't get very far, I'm hoping to get farther this year with this piece...

Big Eye Eyed Fantasy Scarecrow Lass / Art Sketch Daily

So, whilst I've continued to sketch daily, I haven't been posting each and every sketch, but this is a fun project that I'm working on.  I've decided to paint a big eye scarecrow lass.  I've sketched two potential scarecrows and decided to develop this one.  I was inspired by Camilla d'Errico's Drawloween prompt list, although I've yet to get past the rough sketch stage...

I am looking forward to taking the first rough sketch and doing a toned drawing of her!

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She seems to be in deep contemplation of something above us.  I think she is most likely a goddess, although she could also be a fairy angel or a mermaid.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

Here is a sketch of a pumpkin.  Actually, it's a sketch of a pumpkin candle.  I have two of them and they come out annually for Halloween, but I can't bring myself to actually use them...  This Halloween we're staying in a giving out candy.  There are a lot of neighborhood kids around, and even if there aren't that many this year, I bought candy that I like...

Framed Paintings for the "Day of the Dead Meets Halloween" art show at the Neutra Institute Gallery & Museum + October 21 Sketch...

Here are my paintings framed and ready for the "Day of the Dead Meets Halloween" art show at the Neutra Institute Gallery & Museum.  Three of Dia de los Muertos paintings are on panel.  The small marigold flowers are on canvas as is my Halloween fairy.  They are all acrylic paintings.  On my website I don't usually offer my works framed, but for the show they are available as shown.

The opening is tomorrow Saturday the 22nd from 6 to 9.  The show runs through November 13th but is by appointment only, contact me if you'd like to go and I'll try to set it up for you.  Alex at The Darker Side of Passion is also showing a piece, I'm not sure what time we'll be there, he has a Go Tournament this weekend, but I'll try to hop online on Saturday and post a quick update saying when we're on our way there.

Happy Halloween: Pumpkins From The Rise of the Jack O'Lanterns at Descanso Gardens

I love Halloween, it is one of my favorite holidays.  Dressing up, candy, and pumpkins; what's not to love?  Last week I went to The Rise of the Jack O'Lanterns at Descanso Gardens, a pumpkin extravaganza!  The pumpkins invaded one of my favorite spaces and made it completely different.  There were so many jack o'lanterns, it was incredible.  These are lots of images, but there were many more, it was difficult to winnow it down to just these ones.  I'm saving some of the Dia de los Muertos themed ones for tomorrow.  I took a few with the flash on to show the design and construction details, I hope you will enjoy them.  Happy Halloween!
