Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year! Happy Year of the Ox & Lunar New Year! Original Muskox Musk Painting...

Gung hay fat choy! Happy Lunar New Year!  It's the Year of the Ox this zodiac year and this fluffy muskox and I at lisabellarusso.com would like to wish you a wonderful year.

I am not quite done with this painting of a musk ox, it needs a little bit more love, so it isn't available quite yet (I'll do another post when it is).  I like to paint the zodiac animal of the year in honor of Chinese New Year.  I also love painting animals, so these are always a joy to paint.  I haven't come up with a title yet for this cutey, so if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Year of the Muskox Chinese New Year Musk Ox WIP Work in Progress Rough Sketch / Art Sketch Daily #dailysketch #draweveryday...

Every year, I try to paint the Zodiac animal of the year for Chinese New Year...  February 12th will be the start of year of the ox.  Right now I've started with a rough sketch of a muskox.  It is a work in progress at this point. I love to paint fluffy fur and this musk ox has plenty of that!  I am looking forward to taking this further.

Most of my art is also available on my website at lisabellarusso.com; however, on the first Tuesday of the month, I like to put some art prints and LE ACEO prints on ebay at a lower promotional rate for the duration of the auctions...  This month, my theme is a selection of some of my Chinese New inspired animal art (I hope to finish this piece by next month and share some additional Zodiac animals on the 1st Tuesday of February) and others; you may see them here.

Group Show
DECEMBER 14 - JANUARY 18, 2020

The Corey Helford ART COLLECTOR STARTER KIT VI (Closed Show) features art by their artists generally sized at 12"x12" and priced to entice new collectors into taking the plunge.  Oh how I wish I could!  I went to see HOW DEEP IS THE OCEAN by Jasmine Becket-Griffith and I'd so love to be able purchase her and take her home, but alas no, I could only look at and photograph the art.  Which was a privilege in and of itself...  There were a number of rodent inspired pieces and I've decided to open with sharing them as it felt fitting as this year is year of the rat!  I will definitely be sharing more from this show as time progresses.

January 10-23 Sketches

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in January. They are all rough sketches.  I'm quite a bit behind in sharing my daily sketches, so I've grouped the images in groups so it isn't quite so overwhelming.  You may see them individually on facebook here.  You may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Day 10:  Here is a sketch of an orchid.  There are so many lovely variations of this flower...
Day 11:  Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  I think she has seen much of the world...  I think she is most likely an angel fairy, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.
Day 12:  Here is a sketch of a geranium.  They are so vibrant and lovely...
Day 13:  Here is a sketch of an anthurium.  They are a joy to sketch...
Day 14:  Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She has a moodiness to her demeanor...  I think she is most likely a fairy angel, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.

Day 15:  Here is a sketch of a calla lily.  There is a purity and grace to these flowers...
Day 16:  Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She has an expression of wonder.  I think she is most likely a goddess, although she could also be a fairy angel or a mermaid.
Day 17:  Here is a sketch of a tulip.  I love tulips...
Day 18:  Here is a sketch of gloxinia flower.  I'm not sure if I've seen one of these in person...
Day 19:  Here is a sketch of a hibiscus.  I love the flower's joyful quality...

Day 20:  Here is a sketch of a daisy.  Daisies are such sweet flowers...
Day 21:  Here is a sketch of a lovebird.  This is lovebird one of three potential lovebirds that I will decide amongst to paint.  Here I am exploring standard proportions, but I may redraw them to explore a more chibi look.
Day 22:  Here is a sketch of a lovebird.  This is lovebird one of three potential lovebirds that I will decide amongst to paint.  Here I am exploring standard proportions, but I may redraw them to explore a more chibi look.

WIP Chow Chow Puppy Dog Art Original Painting Work in Progress + Sketch of Little Red Riding Hood Version and a Big Eye Angel Fairy/ March 1 & 2 / Art Sketches Daily...

In this original acrylic painting of a chow chow puppy dog, I have completed the background.  Originally I'd intended to have this piece finished by the start of Chinese New Year as the zodiac animal this year is dog, however other factors delayed me.  In any case, it is year of the dog all year long, so while I'm late, I think it's still okay.  This little pup looks a bit peeved, I'm hoping to mitigate that as I proceed.  The panel that I'm painting on is 5"x7"

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She is inspired by the fairytale little red riding hood.  She is the third of three variations that I've sketched.  I have yet to decide which one I like the best to move forward towards refining the sketch to paint, but I am making progress.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in March. This is from day 1.

This is a rough sketch.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  Her eyes are gently closed...  I think she is most likely an angel fairy, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

WIP Peacock Bird Art Original Painting Work in Progress + Sketch of a Chow Chow Puppy Dog/ February 23 / Art Sketches Daily...

In this original acrylic painting of a peacock, I've started blocking in the stems of the feathers.  I put it aside for a while to work on some other deadlines, but I have resumed painting my feathery friend...  I had planned on laying in gold leaf, the type that comes in pages, but instead I think I will use a paint.  It isn't acrylic though, so it will likely be the last part of the feathers that I do.  The canvas that I'm painting on is 11"x14"

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

WIP Snub Nosed Monkey Animal Art Original Painting Work in Progress...

In this original acrylic work in progress golden snub nosed monkey painting, I've worked some more on his face.  I've also started on his golden orange fur in his body in this wip.  These monkeys are amazing, they actually have these colors in their faces and fur!  Animals can be so incredible.  I'm hoping to have this little guy done for Tuesday.  According to my calendar, Chinese New Year starts on February 8th and this will be the year of the monkey...  It is celebrated for weeks also, which I think is wonderful!
