In this original 8"x10" work in progress WIP oil painting of two anemone flowers, I've been refining the lights of the paintings.  My next step will be to finesse some details and also add some darks of the petals.  I also need to work on the flower's cores, but I'm a ways off from that.  I photographed my reference for these beauties at Huntington Gardens...

WIP Angel Fairy Art Original Painting Work in Progress + July Sketches, Sketch 15, Foal...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP big eye maiden painting I've been working on her wings.  Her blue wings are inspired by hummingbird wings.  Next I'll be working on her big brown eyes.  This angel fairy is a little 4"x4" acrylic painting.

I transferred the sketch and put some texture down on my current Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead painting...  My friend Rose will be here on Monday and stay until Thursday, the schedule may be a bit different this week and I'll probably post less; she lives in Hawaii and I very rarely get to see her...

This week "Mane of Gold," the original painting of a horse with a golden mane has sold.  It is now available as print and ACEO.  The horse is white with brown and grey and has big brown eyes.  It was painted in honor of the Year of the Horse and chosen from a selection that was voted upon.  I also have additional giclee art and ACEO prints here with a theme of wings of blue.

Today is the start of the year of the horse, I hope you have a wonderful one!

I'm a little under the weather this week, so I'm not sure yet if I'll finish my newest horse in time for Tuesday.  Here is an older horse painting that I have up on my website here.  It's an 8"x10" acrylic painting on canvas panel and I also have it available as 8"x10" prints and limited edition ACEO prints.

29 Faces starts tomorrow, it's a challenge of sharing 29 faces in the month of February.  It is my intention to participate, hopefully I'll start to feel better soon...

Sketches of Four Horses: Please Vote for which to paint! Plus Fairy Maiden with Waterlily

Edit:  Another really close vote!  Combined between facebook and my blog, number 3 won by one, so that is the one I will strive to finish by Tuesday next.  It is the year of the horse though and I do love horses, so it's entirely possible that 2 will make an appearance at a future time...

Here are the two sketches combined of the flower fairy maiden and her waterlily.  Alex and I decided it would be too busy with the koi fish, so I will hope to incorporate some of them into another painting in addition to the little one I am working on...

These are four horses that I've sketched this week.  I would like to paint one of them this week.  If you'd like to vote on which one, just leave a comment as to which you'd prefer and I'll tally the votes on Tuesday at around four, adding up the votes of my blog and facebook page together.  In the event of a tie, or no votes, I'll just draw one out of a hat.  I might do this weekly with different sketches.  I also may use the sketches and paintings based on the sketches posted in other art at different times.  This painting will be a small 5"x7", with some cropping to fit the format, that I will try to complete between Tuesday and the Tuesday next...

A Couple of Sketches of Horses...

These are two sketches of horses.  I am trying to sketch more often.  As we are entering the Year of the Horse soon, this week my theme is horses.  The top one is white with a golden mane and the bottom one is a golden brown with a white crest.  On Sunday, if you'd like, you may help me choose which horse to paint of the ones I have available that day...

Unicorn Sketch on Canvas...

Here is my sketch for a unicorn.  As it is a magical being, I've made the eye and mane bigger than my inspiration photograph by Shawn Parker.  It is on canvas and my next step with it will be to paint the background.  Well, technically I paint the sides of the canvas first, but that doesn't really count...  I have darkened the sketch a little bit in photoshop to hopefully make it easier to see.  This is a small 5"x7" piece, so I was able to scan it in.  The camera and the scanner both have virtues, but for smaller pieces, I usually prefer to scan them if there isn't any paint or if the paint is completely dry...

Sketches of Three Horses Eyes...

Here are sketches of three horses eyes.  I took a good look at my unicorn sketch and decided that the problem I was having with it was that the eye I sketched was too non specific, so I decided to gather more reference images of horses or more specifically horses eyes.  I'm going to take these into photoshop and see which works the best, I'm leaning towards the second one right now...

An Original Painting of Two Horses Grazing, a Kitty Cat Art Print, and more Prints!

My featured print auction for the week is on ebay here.  It is titled "Waiting for You" and is of a brown and tan cat.  I also have additional art prints here.

They're all based on my original paintings with a theme of four legged friends and are starting today and ending next Tuesday.  There are cats, horses, a dog, a fawn, and a bunny rabbit.
